The most important new features and improvements are:

• Strong improvement on database management and support for handling multiple databases. A merge tool will become available for the transition of how the old database was organized to the v3.0 one.
• I³S will automatically check for updates and new releases. This feature will be implemented in all I³S software packages in version 3.0 and higher. Every 30 days upon start-up of I³S, it will check for updates and, if available, ask you if it should download and install a new version. After each update I³S will ask if you want to see the release notes on the website.
• Assigning metadata to individuals and a simple tool to edit metadata per database. Metadata is additional information, which describes the individual, or perhaps the conditions in which the image was taken.
• Improvement in the recognition algorithms.
